With the vigorous increment of pollution
and the dynamic changes in lifestyle, not only you but also your child is
exposed to a colossal scale of virus and germs. As a children’s body is not as
immune as we are, therefore, they are more prone to sickness. However, with
time your child will become resistant to these pathogens by fighting through
them. Consequently, it’s normal for a child to get around 6-7 cold or flu per
year. Just because its normal does not mean we cannot do anything to stop it or
boost the immunity of a child to eradicate these diseases in the first place.
Here are some of the changes you can make
to boost your child’s immunity
1. Extending the sleeping schedule:
We all have Natural Killer (NK) cells
residing in our body, which attacks microbes and cancer-causing cells in our
body. Sleep deprivation reduces the NK cells making your child more susceptible
to illness. If your child is in preschool, then he/she needs at least 10 hours
of sleep. While toddlers need an average of 13 hours of sleep, a newborn has to
sleep 18 hours a day. If your child doesn’t take a nap after lunch, then put
him/her to bed sometime earlier from regular schedule. If you work and doesn’t
have enough time, it's better to hire a nanny rather than dropping your child
at a day-care centre. The day-care centre includes engaging activities, which
might keep your child from sleeping. However, there are few day-care also there
who can assist your child for napping.
2. Make your home and surroundings more
hygienic:
The best way to safeguard the immunity
system of your child is by guarding your child against germs. Just by fighting
germs will not boost the immunity, but it will allow the stronger immunity
growth of your child. You can start by improving your hygiene approach towards
your kids. Start by giving them food under sanitary conditions, followed by
washing their hand before and after a meal. Also, keep an eye on your children
and wash their hand whenever they blow their nose, use the bathroom, handle a
pet or play outside. You must pay more focus on incorporating hand-washing
habits among your children to make them more frequent towards a healthy living.
3. Increasing consumption of fruits and
vegetables:
Adds immunity-boosting phytonutrients
like Vitamin C and carotenoids in your diet. Foods rich in these phytonutrients
are oranges, strawberries, carrots, green beans etc. Phytonutrients acts as a
promoter of fighter White blood cells. It also boosts interferon, an antibody
that blocks out viruses from our body by barricading our cell surfaces.
4. Taking herbal supplements:
Supplements often face bad criticism most
because most people often regard them as medications. However, there is nothing
similar between medications and supplements. Also, most supplements claiming to
be an Immune booster for children are synthetic, while most make false
claims without any credibility. Adding herbal supplements like JRK’s Immuno BS
Herbal Tonic helps in eradicating respiratory tract infections, poor immune
defence, indigestion and lack of appetite. Clinically tested, and made from essential
herbs, this herbal tonic is an excellent Immune booster for children.
